This election will herald the end of police authorities. Powers to set police force budgets and policing priorities, and hire and fire chief constables, will be transferred to a single individual, directly elected in each force area. Political Parties will have the opportunity to put forward a candidate in each force area.
The 7 constituencies of Northamptonshire have selected Adam Simmonds as the candidate for this election. Richard Lewis, the Chairman for these selections, has released the following about Adam
'Adam at present lives in Farthingstone but expects to move closer to the centre of the county in the near future. He is 35 years old and until recently was working at Northampton County Council as an Assistant Director. Having taken on this candidacy Adam has had to resign from his position at Northampton County Council.
Prior to our whole selection procedure Adam had already prepared an initial manifesto covering a wide range of topics to be addressed by the Police and Crime Commissioner. This initial manifesto will help considerably in putting together the final manifesto which will be used for the election.
We have a very proactive candidate with our selection which augers well for the campaign.'
To raise funds for this Election campaign there will be a County wide fund raising dinner on Friday 29th June 2012.
This will be held at the Northampton Saints Rugby Club. The Guest Speaker will be The Rt. Hon. Theresa May MP, Home Secretary. The tickets will cost £30 per person.
