Andrea Leadson MP is setting up a charity in Towcester to help families who struggle to form an emotional bond with their babies.
The Northamptonshire Parent Infant Project (NORPIP) follows the success of OXPIP, a similar project which she set up in Oxfordshire.
Andrea said, "My aim is that we will eventually offer this type of support for new families and their babies right across the UK. Homelessness, drug addiction, self harming, depression, criminality - the worst social problems - stem from the damage done when the baby is less than two years old."
The service, which will start in September, will offer psycotherapeutic counselling to new families who are struggling to form a secure bond with their babies.
